Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation is a statewide nonprofit conservation organization that works with private landowners and public agencies to protect and restore Iowa’s land, water and wildlife. Our organization has been working in partnership to protect Henderson Woods in Humboldt County since 2007.

We worked with Pete Englund, owner/operator of Legacy Trails, LLC, in 2021 to layout a hiking trail through the property. Pete also worked with us to lead dozens of volunteers over the course of two days to build the trail by hand. I can’t say enough positive things about Pete’s work ethic, commitment to safety and ability to organize and activate volunteers. He’s an engaging instructor that goes above and beyond to provide an enjoyable experience while also getting the job done. We especially appreciated his conservation knowledge and commitment to protection of the natural resources. These are the reasons people want to hike in the area. It’s very important to us do our best to provide the amenity while protecting the place simultaneously. I would highly recommend Pete.
